“La povertà non ha cittadinanza” (Poverty has no citizenship), is a project aimed at promoting dialogue and exchange among Kenyan citizens and refugees through education and farming activities. The specific goals can be summarised as follows: to create a “drop-in” for the children living in the slums of Mathare, to provide training to teachers, to purchase and farm some land, build a new school, establish a stable relationship between the Hope International School (a school for refugee children) and other schools, institutions and private enterprises in Italy.

The organization was established in May 2004 by a group of students of the Faculty of Political Science in Padua. The organization promotes cultural activities both in Italy and in Kenya. Every six months it organizes a course called “Studying Africa in Africa”, in Nairobi, in collaboration with two Kenyan organizations. The course is open to college students and other persons interested in the issue.
