The project “maternità sicura” (safe pregnancy) is aimed at providing pre- and post-birth care and aiding the obstetrics unit at the Saint Luke Hospital in Wolisso (Ethiopia). The goal is to improve conditions for mothers and newborns, and reduce the death rates.
S.I.S.M. is as organization promoting humanitarian, medical and scientific projects both at a national and international level. It also aims at improving cultural exchange among medical students, doctors and patients.
In April 2005 the branch in Udine established a collaboration with the St. Luke Hospital in Wolisso, sending medical students there to work.
- Nurse training: aimed at training professional nurses who will then work in the hospital in Wolisso.
- Walk again: aimed at providing prosthetics to amputated patients and helping in the rehabilitation of patients affected by polio.
