Canoa Criança (children of Canoa) is a non-profit organization established in 1995 in Canoa Quebrada, a small town in Cearà, the Brazilian state that despite its booming tourism, is still one of the poorest in the north-eastern part of the country.

The project “Circus Theatre School” promoted by the organization is aimed at keeping children away from the streets, attracting them instead to artistic activities. These also help the children develop their ability to concentrate, team spirit and creativeness. As well as theatre, dance, music and circus activities, the organization offers tutorials and basic computer courses. At present there are about one hundred children attending the centre, half of which also receive daily lunches.
