The House Of Rastafari meets the Reggae University Camp

Beside the Camp, you will find the House Of Rastafari, the traditional headquarters of the permanent assembly of Italian Rastafaris and reference at the festival for all those who are interested in approaching the Rastafari livity or are simply curious to learn more about it.

The proximity of the 2 areas provides the chance to promote synergies and to jointly organize some of the events of the Camp's program. Below the calendar of the lectures + a workshop proposed by the House Of Rastafari.

A Rastafari perspective on the True Meaning of Dreadlocks, based on the original Bible texts in Hebrew and Ethiopic and on the living Israelite Tradition.

03pm LECTURE ETHIOPIA, THE IMPREGNABLE ROCK OF BLACK RESISTANCE

Glances on the unique role played by Ethiopia, the only country in Africa unconquered by European colonialism, as the beacon of freedom and independence for all African peoples at home and abroad in the advancement of the cause for their political, moral and spiritual emancipation. Particular reference will be made to the impact that this role exerted on people of African descent in the Americas and the West Indies and the consequent foundation, by the will of His Majesty Haile Selassie the First, of the Ethiopian World Federation Inc. as the Government of Black people in the West.

03pm LECTURE JAMAICA-ETHIOPIA CONNECTION: RASTA-YOUTHS FROM SHASHAMANE.

We will analyze the importance of Jamaican and Rastafarian culture's influence on the forming of new generations in Ethiopia and especially in Shashamane, where the blending of the Ethiopian and Jamaican communities gives birth to new and refreshed cultural forms. We will describe the linguistic and artistic uniqueness related to the fact that Shashamane youths express themselves in Jamaican Patois or through reggae music.

03pm WORKSHOP THE KEBRA NAGAST - THE GLORY OF THE KINGS.

ITS CONTENTS AND IMPORTANCE FOR ETHIOPIA AND  RASTAFARI"
In this workshop we will introduce you into the main aspects of the Kebra Nagast, i.e. How Menelik I, the son of King Solomon and Queen of Saba, brought the Ark of the Covenant to Ethiopia, also becoming the first Hebrew King in the land. We will read certain passages of it in translations and also give a little view to the classical Ethiopic language, called Ge'ez, in which the book is written. We will further discuss topics like: the legitimation of the Solomonic Dynasty and its Davidic/Solomonic origin, the true cult of worshipping God and the true Israel is in Ethiopia. Open to everyone, no previous knowledge required.
