Area Showcase 06.07

Monday's fresh afternoon in the Show Case area saw the work of three groups, very different in style, from the Bornasco Ride Again Festival in Biella. The event stared at 3pm with the Brothorst, a German group with a funk ska reggae style. Their presence here at Rototom Sunsplash is connected to their own tour that they have entitled the Seven Men Revolution Tour 2009, with a special brochure. The band is also working on its next production, with a self-produced single already done. Following them on the Showcase stage were the Datune, a French band which recently won the French European Reggae Contest 2009. The group presented a selection of tracks from their first album, just released on 5th May 2009, “Datune, Enfants Du Siecle”. The Dancehall style made the impact on the listeners really varied, considering how different the three singers were who supported each other and worked together all though the performance. The afternoon's gigs were affected by the technical problems, connected to the electricity supply, which had also sowed down the proceedings the day before. Furthermore, if this wasn't enough, rain interrupted the last gig, which was dedicated to very talented, emerging group of young musicians from Genova, who had come fifth in the Bornasco Reggae Contest. A very pleasing performance, which managed to get a lot of people involved in the dancing, who asked if they had any CDs for sale. Exchanging a few words with Andrea, leader and singer of the band, he told me that his friendship with Chris Ellis, the son of the great Alton, and about their next album project, which will be their first production. Due to the pressing programme which also clashed with the concerto on the Main Stage of the Aggrolites, we said goodbye with the expectation of meeting and sharing vibes again in the not too distant future.
