The “Salam” Heart Surgery Centre in Khartoum (Sudan) was established to offer assistance to all patients suffering from heart diseases, in particular congenital malformations and valve pathologies associated to rheumatic fever.
The hospital, established in April 2007, is entirely managed by Emergency, both from a clinical and a financial viewpoint. When fully operative, the centre for cardiac surgery will be able to carry out an average of 1,500 operations per year, as well as screening activities and post-operation monitoring.
Emergency is a non-political, independent organization that provides free, top-quality medical assistance and surgical treatment to all civilian war victims. Emergency’s projects are usually long-term ones: in the countries where it operates, it builds hospitals and provides the medical assistance. These hospitals are managed directly by Emergency until they reach full autonomy, both from a professional and a financial viewpoint. The countries where Emergency is currently operating are: Italy, Iran, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Sierra Leone and Sudan.
Donations to the projects promoted by Emergency can be made online or sending money to the Italian post account no. 28426203.
