I write in strong support of the Rototom Reggae Sunsplash Festival which is such a powerful medium through which the music and culture of Jamaica are being spread across the globe. It was enlightening to participate in the 'Reggae University' forum at the 2009 staging of the event.
As the founder of the Reggae Studies Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, I know how important it is to engage in global dialogue about the meaning of popular culture. Thanks for creating a space in which cross-cultural converations can flourish. I hope that the
Rototom Reggae Sunsplash Festival will find a welcoming new home where it can grow from strength to strength.
Bless
