Human and social commitment accompanied Rototom since the beginning. This event, not only musical has become over the years an authentic "cultural laboratory", able to care about to care about the deep worldwide movements connected to civil rights, peace culture, anti-racism and sustainability; and to collect this "thirst to knowledge" and ideas which came out with the youth who gathered at the debates tent. This place for thoughts and activism needs now more strenght, while Europe is facing intense change, with big economic and social crisis; the loss of social rights and state sovereignty; mass migrations which tent to spread hatred and xenophoby.

The House of Rastafari, reaching its eight consecutive year of presence within the Rototom Sunsplash, is the place entitled for Rototom’s people to find answers to their questions concerning Rastafari Faith, through a wide cultural programme :

As in past editions of the Rototom Sunsplash, we dedicate a special area to Africa and its culture. This year we will have a completely renovated area with more workshops, courses, performances: consisting of one space as info point and display of different cooperation projects, another one for workshops and other for shows. All of these with handmade hut-like structures with the intention to recreate an African village as much as possible, also surrounded by shops and African restaurants.

A series of meetings to discuss important moments in the history of reggae music, together with journalists, writers, Dee jays and artists. A real forum on the past, present and future of reggae music, analysing the influence and evolution of this music style, as well as its social, political and spiritual impact.

Living the energy is a project which this year takes up and develops activities from previous editions with the aim of recreating a tribal village, an area dedicated to well-being where professionals of the holistic sector will be offering bioenergetic rebalancing treatments, massages, physical training seminars, meditation, yoga, tai-chi, ancestral meetings, debates and two times a day, therapy free for everyone.

After the favourable welcome given last year to the art symposium, for the next edition we will start to receive with great pleasure your most original and artistic proposals. We will offer two different projects again, to promote creativity and communication through art: the creation of sculptures and installations in the area of the festival and a painting symposium.

At Rototom Sunsplash children and their education have a fundamental role for our future, as well as for our society. And it's for this reason that this space - which was named Magicogioco for 10 years and is now called Magicomundo - was created inside the festival. Magicomundo will not only be a daycare for children, but it will represent a space of cultural exchange, to learn and experience through play time and to absorbe from one another. Besides, this year this area will be a connection and a landmark to some other parts of the festival.

A Sunbeach to experience Jamaica in the Mediterranean.

After last year's great success, Sunbeach comes back to Benicassim in a different location, la Playa del Terres (Botavara) and with many improvements. A complete programme of free activities, where you will have the possibility to do courses, dance and listen to lots of music, special guests like on Sunday 21st Miguel Caamaño, the director of "Alma de Leon" (Radio3), who will present a special event of "Alma de Leon". Some of the Dubstation and Ska Club artists will entertain the area of this particular beach.

The No Profit area captures the true essence of the Rototom. Volunteerism, cooperation, social involvement and solidarity determine the work of the heterogeneous associations and non profit organizations that occupy the spaces assigned for free by the festival. Each of them in its own scope and with its own aims, but all united by a generous and selfless spirit. 

Every year Sunsplash goes more Greensplash, giving more and more attention to the environment. For the 2011 edition Rototom Sunsplash is going to take even more steps to improve the sustainability of the festival and insure the least possible impact on the environment with the aim of implementing a totally sustainable festival. Thanks to this commitment, Rototom Sunsplash has been recognized in 2009 and 2010 as one of the greener European festivals by A Greener Festival Award organization.

This is a classic in the Rototom Sunsplash. In here, we provide a place not only for reggae proposals, but also for all those representing any of the values in which the festival believes: tolerance, respect, brotherhood and the search for our roots through tribal sounds such as drums, didgeridoo and different dances.

The Rototom Sunsplash continues to grow and expand its horizons. This year we will enjoy the Rototomcircus for the first time, a new space created to disseminate all the aspects of contemporary circus and street art that have long been contributing with a great social, cultural and even educational work in constant growth.
