With a view to this year's ambitious edition and the predictable arrival of thousands of people in Benicàssim, Rototom offers a number of suggestions, so that all of us can experience the Sunsplash whilst avoiding environmental impact.
Genova 2001-2011
Ten years after the G8 in Genova and the tragic death of Carlo Giuliani, Rototom wants to renew the support and affection for Giuliano and Heidi Giuliani and all the victims of Genova, that have never stopped asking for justice during the last ten years.
The city of Genova will commemorate those events until July 24th, with a calendar full of meetings, debates, concerts and exhibitions: Genova 2001-2011. Loro la crisi, noi la speranza intends to provide a chance to think about what has changed during this decade. July 2001 represented one of the worst moments and at the same time set a new starting point.
Sailing to Gaza with the second Freedom Flotilla
In view of the imminent meeting of ships in international waters to try to break the maritime blockade suffered by the Gaza strip, Rototom wants to express once again, its solidarity with the crew of the second Freedom Flotilla. Hundreds of activists from various organizations and prominent personalities from around the world have embarked on this new humanitarian crusade that challenges the most intransigent and harsh positions of the Israeli government. Since June 2007, Israel has submitted the citizens of Gaza to a suffocating territorial blockade that has caused a real humanitarian crisis which affects 1,5 million people.
MCI and Rototom united for coexistence and multiculturalism
Both organizations are working to spread tolerance, coexistence and respect among people and cultures. This social and human commitment shared by Rototom and Movimiento Contra la Intolerancia made that both entities initiated more than a year ago a fruitful partnership. At this moment, this relationship will strengthen further due to the recent signing of a formal agreement from which important cultural and awareness projects will emerge.
Rototom joins the Avaaz campaign
Already more than 600.000 people around the world have joined the Avaaz campaign calling for a new approach to the global policy on drugs. This organization, which is the largest transnational community of online mobilization, has taken advantage of the meeting of the Global Commission on Drugs held in New York, to hand its members the statement demanding an end to the “war on drugs”.
