His first talent demonstrations gave him the name of Prince Jammy, together with the dub king King Tubby, a sort of artistic father from whom he learnt the studios tricks.
After starting as producer and dub master, he moved to Canada looking for fame. After coming back home, he became one of the most important names of the dancehall scene; his studio situated in St. Lucia Road was always crowded of great artists like Cocoa Tea, Frankie Paul, Gregory Isaacs and Dennis Brown among the others. Obviously his music was played also by his own sound system, one of the must powerful existing. After the tragic death of Tubby, Lloyd became the only king of the jamaican dancehall, and he launched the careers of artist like Beenie Man, Cobra, Shabba Ranks and Bounty Killer. Jammy, through the launch of the Sleng Teng riddim has been the person who converted the dancehall into digital. Now Jammy passed his art to his sons, so that the tradition can continue.
