SKA CLUB The legendary Dennis “Alcapone” Smith, who started with his small sound system “El Paso” in Kingston in the late sixties to immersed himself later in a vertiginous recording career. His good ear for rhythm induced the best Jamaican producers of the seventies to fight for him: Keith Hudson, Clement Dodd, Duke Reid, Lee Perry, Byron Smith, Bunny Lee, Sydney Crooks.

He also recorded songs for the prestigious labels Big Shot, Studio One, Bamboo Records, Banana, Pyramid, Trojan, Magnet, Live & Love, etc.

His secret lies in that unique way of rejuvenating songs, giving them a new dimension, and even giving the profile of the deejay a new air with his particular toasting style. Dennis reinvented the rocksteady, revolutionized the foundations of the Deejay science and established the Alcapone-mania, a lifestyle created by the first one to give importance to the lyrics on the dance floors.
