DUB STATION Mighty Jah Observer is a veteran sound in the English roots scene. It was founded in 1978 and its first name was Tippertone. After a year of activity, more or less, the name of the sound changed to its current one. During these early days, Mighty Jah Observer played at school parties and organized sessions at the community centres of the area during the weekends. Their firsts selections were mostly based on lovers rock but over the time they moved onto more militant roots.
Mighty Jah Observer has been an active member of the Jamaican Notting Hill carnival for over twenty years. In the late seventies, it was involved in Rock Against Racism becoming one of the first reggae sounds to perform at punk festivals. Mighty Jah Observer also participated in the festival of Cannes at the premiere of the film “Babylon”, by Franco Rosso, dedicated to the lives of the young West-Indians in London and to the culture of the sound systems. It is one of the sound systems that has been using the legendary Garrard 401 turntables and the tube amplifier KT88 for a longer time. Its founder Spiderman, Ras Rudy, Alan, GP and Tracey, are the members of the Mighty Jah Observer crew.
