With a soul-filled voice, with great force and at the same time a faint sweetness; Maxi Priest is one of the greatest reggae artists of the English scene. Originally from the London suburb of Lewisham, Maxi began singing in live sound systems before starting a huge succession of great albums that began in 1985 with “You’re safe” and culminated with his successful “Maxi Priest” (1988) and “Bonafide” (1990).

This latter album contained the single “Close to you” which took Maxi to the top of the rankings in the U.S. Billboard. “Housecall”, in collaboration with Shabba Ranks, was one of the biggest dancehall singles of 1991 and a good example of the Jamaican music which make it to the top in the American black music market. Maxi also did a duet with Shaggy on his hit “That girl” in 1996.
